Lake Tuscaloosa Wedding

This wedding had it ALL! Stunning Lake Tuscaloosa views, amazing speeches from family and friends, emotional letters, the sweetest groom reaction ever, and a party that could have gone all night! I love being an Alabama videographer because of the vast range of venues and wedding locations in our state, but by far my favorite wedding days are spent at places that bring the drama all while being personalized to the couple! Traveling for this Lake Tuscaloosa wedding made our filmmaker hearts so happy.

Cheyenne & John chose to have their ceremony at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Northport, Alabama. First of all, the church is architecturally beautiful, with its cream colored exterior and geometric lines. It was the couple’s reception that truly made a statement though, due to the clear dance floor leading out over the pool and looking over Lake Tuscaloosa.

The Wedding Day

October 6, 2018

When I arrived at the Hunt’s Lake Tuscaloosa home, Cheyenne met me in her white lace robe and ushered me into her room to show me a simple wooden box. In it, dried rose petals and a stack of envelopes, each with the word “Sunshine” on the front.

These were all of the letters that John had written her (his “Sunshine”) an entire summer while he was away at Medical school, along with the rose petals from the single-stem roses that came with each letter. She explained that she kept each one and then told me that they had written each other one more letter to read before seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. Letter writing has always been a big part of their relationship, as they traveled through several seasons of long distance. (And it’s the perfect background storytelling element in a wedding film! If you want more info on how to write the PERFECT wedding day letter, check out our blog post!)

Hearing their love story continued through the written word brought us to tears! It also made the moment when Cheyenne walked down the aisle even sweeter. Y’all. One look at his bride was all it took. That man is head over heels for his Sunshine.

John and his groomsmen got dressed in the home’s bar and theatre area. Talk about a perfect groomsmen hangout spot..the area had a large projector screen playing all of the college football games and a billiard table. John & his guys watched football and played pool all morning long! ( I can hear all of the fiancé’s collectively asking their bride to be what kind of activities are planned for their weddings now..haha)

Meet the Couple

A Sunset Beach Love Story

These two University of Alabama grads met by chance on the beach after Cheyenne made a last minute decision to go for a sunset walk. Cheyenne explained that they were both separately content with where they were in their lives at that point, but that “somehow we slowly and continuously found good company with each other. He smiled and I laughed- simple as that.”

Cheyenne said “It is hard to not fall for someone who makes you genuinely laugh or smile, naturally. Something was authentic about our conversations and our connection.”

They had their first date at Depalmas, Cheyenne’s favorite Italian restaurant in Tuscaloosa. They shared good conversation, a GREAT bread pudding and cappuccino, and a romantic walk along the riverside.

Fast forward through college graduation, John starting Med school, and a little bit of a long distance romance, these two grew stronger together and it was time for John to propose!

The Proposal

Tuscaloosa, AL

John recreated their first date, taking Cheyenne to dinner at their favorite restaurant and then for a sunset walk. She had no clue it was coming until he was down on one knee proposing! She told me that “John and I usually chose Depalmas as the place to go for any celebration, date night, or if we had been away from each other for any extended period of time. Given that John had been out of town for approximately 3 or so weeks, it only made sense that we would choose Depalmas for a night out on the town when he returned back to Tuscaloosa. Little did I know. “

After she said YES! They went back to the restaurant for her favorite dessert, bread pudding and cappuccino 😍 Talk about a perfect night!!
