Exploring Charleston, SC

Charleston, South Carolina is home to the dreamiest Spanish Moss, swaying Palmettos, a rich history in southern tradition and some of the most delicious fritters we’ve ever had.

It’s also home to our new real life friend, Charleston photographer Gladyxa Mari Photography. We made the six hour trip from Birmingham to CHS in February to film a sweet couple’s elopement on Edisto Island. (To see their film, click here!!) While in the Holy City filming the wedding, we decided we should reach out to Gladyxa, who we’ve been online friends with on Instagram for a long time, and hire her to do some new headshots for us!

Grinning and posin’ in Hampton Park

We’re excited to share some of our favorite images G captured for us along some of Charleston’s best spots, as well as our top 5 things to do when you visit CHS!

Must Do’s in Charleston: Our List

  1. Visit Hampton Park and have a stroll..or just take advantage of the stunning spanish moss cascading among the magnolia trees with a portrait session! I (Megan) fell in love with Hampton park two years ago when I attended Callie Lindsey’s workshop. It has the light reflecting walkways, along with the white gazebos and plenty of diffused light, so it was the perfect spot to start our sunrise session with G.

There’s also a gorgeous row of Loropetalum (chinese fringe flowers) over on the side of the park..which we LOVED.

2. One of the best things you can do around Charleston is take a leisurely walk along its historic streets. We started our walk..then saw Holy Spokes Bike rentals…haha We chose to rent two robins egg blue bikes and traverse the cobblestones- resulting in my laughing so hard I had to hop off and rest!! Just imagine how hilarious it is to ride a bike (which we haven’t done in YEARS) bumping along over cobblestone streets, laughing like a kid. I am dying laughing just thinking of it again!!

We rode along the battery, taking in the waterfront views, sailboats along the marina, and the famous pineapple fountain landmark.

3. It may be cliche- but you need to stop by Rainbow Row at least once in your life. Peek through the cast iron bars to see the hidden gardens and admire the architecture of these gorgeous colorful homes!

4. After burning a few calories on our bikes, we stopped in at Magnolia’s Southern Cuisine for Sunday brunch. While there, we enjoyed citrusy Mimosas, the perfect window seats for people watching, and the most amazing pear fritters we’ve ever had.

These beauties were lightly fried, dusted with powdered sugar and dipped in a honey butter. HEAVEN. We also had shrimp and grits (because, #charleston) but THESE were the superstars of brunch-hands down.

Just Call us Cheesemongers.

5. In the world of charcuterie, there are people who live for cheese. Kelsey and I aspire to be these people. Goat, Sheep, Cow in Charleston helps us in our cheesy endevours. (Purposefully spelling endeavors wrong so you’ll read it as “en-Devours” because that is what we do to cheese. Devour it. We loved having happy hour at GSC in North Charleston, and took a few cheeses home with us to enjoy later. AND ENJOY WE DID.

PS- There are two locations of Goat Sheep Cow. GSC North has the wine bar & deli.

So there you have it. We basically just enjoyed eating in Charleston. Next time we visit, maybe we’ll spend more time sight-seeing or riding around the bay in a boat. Or maybe we’ll just go back for more wine and cheese. Who knows?

What are your must-do’s for visiting this awesome city??
