Wilkes Cove Wedding

Witnessing Alyssa and Richard’s Wilkes Cove wedding made our hearts full. We loved working with Brianna and the rest of the Wilkes Cove folks, who made it their goal to create a beautiful wedding day for this amazing couple!

After a year of planning, the day didn’t go *exactly* as they had planned, but these two didn’t bat an eye over the dark clouds gathering and rain drops beginning to fall. Rachel Barrentine’s gorgeous florals perfectly accented the rich colors of the woods surrounding Wilkes Cove and Alyssa’s bridesmaids’ burgundy gowns.

The Wedding Day

December 1, 2018

December 1 wasn’t just these two’s wedding day. It was the day that they got to officially end their long distance relationship, and begin their new life together as a married couple. Rainy weather aside, all day long we would catch these two stealing quick looks and joking, reminding us that no matter the circumstance, they were in it together. (Also– it was the SEC Championship game between Bama & Georgia. –hence the “Game Day” references you’ll see in their decor!)

Meet the Couple

Long Distance Military Romance

Allyssa & Richard met at Troy University and spent most of their days together while attending college. Hearing them talk about their relationship in their film, you’ll see that these two are best friends, and love spending as much time together as possible. After college, Richard decided to join the Coast Guard. It was during this time that their relationship was put to the test, with him being off at basic training, then stationed in Hawaii for several months. Thanks to FaceTime and phone calls, they were able to talk and “see” each other almost every day, and Alyssa traveled to see Richard whenever she could.

During one of her trips to Hawaii, they decided to meet up with some friends after a sunset walk on the beach. Alyssa said “At this point, I was fairly certain I knew what was going on. (I’m the worst with surprises) We got to the beach and he pulled me aside and asked me to marry him as soon as the sun was about to go down!  It was romantic and perfect even though I kinda saw it coming! And how many people get to say that they were proposed to on a beach at sunset in Oahu?!

Wedding Day Details

Thanks to their custom wedding weather forecast by the Wedding Weatherzilla, these two knew their big day would be a rainy one. They decided to have their first look the day before, when the weather was perfect, so that they can always remember seeing each other for the first time as “Bride & Groom” in a golden-lit, romantic setting.

Watching Alyssa walk toward Richard, his back turned away so as to not see her until *just* the right time, I couldn’t help but flash back through their story in my mind.. It was like each step of their long-distance journey was being considered and enjoyed with each step she took. Finally, when she reached him, it was time for him to see his bride, and to close that distance they had been battling. It was the sweetest moment ever.

Their film was so much fun to edit, and their story a precious one to tell!! Make sure you watch til the very end for a fun little moment that happened at their reception. 😉

Alyssa & Richard,

I am so thankful for the opportunity to tell y’all’s story and capture your perfect rainy day together. Just like we said in our phone conversation, sometimes rain can be a metaphor for life’s struggles–and if that is the case then you two are more than prepared for those rainy days together. Wishing y’all the best!

–Megan
